Maximize your sidedress application with UltraMate Zn

Posted by Jessica Link, Agronomist on February 21, 2024

The Andersons UltraMate® Zn is a powerful combination of humic acid, fulvic acid, and zinc designed to be mixed with sidedress and other applications. The carbon component of UltraMate Zn aids in nutrient delivery into the crop and zinc maximizes plant functions such as protein synthesis, seed and grain formation, and plant growth regulation.

Backed by Research

UltraMate Zn is one of The Andersons’ most popular products added to sidedress applications due to its superior blending characteristics, ability to protect nitrogen and reduce leaching, and proven results.

In a 2023 research trial, when UltraMate Zn was applied at sidedress, an almost 17 bu/a increase was observed over the trial containing only 28% N and a nitrogen stabilizer.

In 2021 in Delphi, Indiana, UltraMate Zn applied at sidedress with 32% reduced crop burn, enhanced root growth, and increased yield at harvest by 8 bu/acre.

In a similar trial conducted in 2021 in Indiana, UltraMate Zn was applied at sidedress. Where UltraMate Zn was applied, there was notably less crop injury due to burn. At harvest, this treatment yielded a 15.3 bu/acre advantage compared to grower standard.

UltraMate® LQ

UltraMate LQ boasts the same benefits of UltraMate Zn but without the additional zinc. This formulation makes it seed safe if looking for a starter application of UltraMate LQ.

In 2020, third-party trials observed yield increases up to 23.8 bushels per acre when UltraMate LQ was added to UAN at sidedress.

In the 2017 Beck’s Practical Farm Research (PFR) trials, UltraMate LQ was applied at a rate of 1gal/ac with UAN at sidedress in Iowa and Illinois. At harvest, the treatment yielded a 7.9 bu/ac increase compared to UAN alone, providing a $24.12 return on investment.

UltraMate LQ is highly compatible, allowing application methods including tank mixing and drip irrigation, which are often unacceptable for conventional humic products.

UltraMate LQ is a combination of humic and fulvic acid, which aids in nutrient delivery into the crop. These characteristics make UltraMate LQ perfectly suited for 2x2 starter applications, sidedress, weed ‘n feed, and residue management applications.
